Hi,

I have sent another web host a jpa file and kickstart to install a site on another server. They have come back to me with a messge that they are unable to install the files and get the following error message:

"Could not open archive part file /xxxx/xxxxxx/public_html/site-------------piwsl.hosts.cx-20180830-111044.jpa for reading. Check that the file exists, is readable by the web server and is not in a directory made out of reach by chroot, open_basedir restrictions or any other restriction put in place by your host."

I have had no problems on my server with jpa site restoration and wondered if you could help with any advice.
Thanks,
Chris

Since you can extract that JPA file the only reasonable conclusion is that the JPA got corrupt or truncated, either when you sent it or when they received it.

First, make sure that you downloaded the file from your server through FTP in binary transfer mode or SFTP. If the file's on remote storage make sure that the file you downloaded has the same size, down to the byte, to the file on the remote storage.

The best way to send the file is uploading it to a remote storage provider (e.g. Dropbox, OneDrive, Google Drive, pCloud, ...) and use their share feature to send a link to the recipient. This will make sure that the whole file makes it through and it's not truncated or corrupt on download.
