I personally discourage the use of such extensions. They only provide half of the protection you need: they can only encrypt the data from the browser to the server. They do not allow the browser to identify the server beyond any reasonable doubt. This means that a malicious actor can launch a man-in-the-middle attack. You'll think your password is encrypted, only that it will be encrypted with a key known to the man in the middle (hacker). SSL certificates, used in HTTPS, provide a complete protection: data encryption to/from the server and identification of the server to the browser. Do yourself a favour and spend about $10 USD to buy a cheap commercial SSL certificate. It's worth SO MUCH more.
