Description of my issue:

Hi...

First - thank you for a GREAT tool. Its made managing multiple sites much easier... being able to deal with security issues in one place.

However, for me one of the BIGGEST benefits to Admin Tools was having Joomla Upgrade! Now, in your newest release you've removed it. You say its because "The core Joomla! Update component is based on Admin Tools and makes no sense having this code in Admin Tools itself."

However my hosting provider has PHP allow_url_fopen setting disabled which means the core icon doesn't work in the control panel! Your inclusion of the updater with a one-click solution to upgrade was a REAL timesaver! I'm really sorry to see its been removed. Is there no way it could be included again????

I realise there are other ways to update Joomla, but your tool WAS so quick and easy, and now I can't use it... :-(

Thanks...

Nick

Joomla! 2.5, indeed, has a problem with allow_url_fopen being disabled*. Joomla! 3.1 and later doesn't. As soon as I removed the Joomla! Update feature from Admin Tools I wrote the fix for Joomla! 2.5 and submitted it to the Joomla! Production Leadership Team who included it in the codebase of what will be released as Joomla! 2.5.15. This means that the update from 2.5.14 to 2.5.15 will have to be semi-manual** but subsequent upgrades will be completely trouble-free. As I said in my announcement, I was pretty much appointed the person responsible for com_joomlaupdate (the core Joomla! Update component) maintenance. My job is to not let you down, guys ;)

* Your host disabling allow_url_fopen means that your host doesn't understand how PHP works and you should change hosts as soon as possible. For more information: http://www.dionysopoulos.me/blog/135-flicking-the-wrong-switch.html

** You can always download the Joomla! update ZIP file and install it as an extension on your site. Really!
