Description of my issue:
Hi I've just completed a site with all the latest stuff. The client was happy and asked me to make it live.

I had built it in a subdirectory off the root directory and everything worked. I used kickstart to move the site from the subdirectory to the root directory. Everything worked, but when I clicked various menu items, I got error pages. I turned off SEF in the site and deleted all the htaccess files. And everything worked,

When I looked at the htaccess file generated by admintools, I found that various redirects where still pointing to the subdirectory and that caused the errors. I previewed the htaccess makers file and sure enough, it still pointed to the old subdirectory.

So somehow, admintools does not recognise a new directory after a move.
I've sorted out the problem by fixing the htaccess file manually, but I've had this problem a couple of times lately, so I thought I'd pass the info on.

Regards
David

You are correct. The .htaccess Maker creates a static file, .htaccess. In order to update the file, you would have to run .htaccess Maker again, it does not do any automatic updates.

The installation script does not make any attempt to update .htaccess either. To me having an automated script trying to guess where you want your paths changed sounds like a really bad idea.

You have discovered the easiest way to update the .htaccess file, just edit it. You could also do it under Admin Tools. If you are sharp enought to figure out why your site is broken, it will be quicker to just edit the file. :-)

I've fixed the file and changed the setting in the htacces-maker. everything is hunky dory now.
