Someone else posted then retracted a similar error message, stating that the problem corrected itself.

Symptoms: 3 separate websites with Joomla 2.5.16 installed. Upgraded AdminTools from 2.5.8 to 2.5.9 See the following error messages:

Warning: mysql_free_result() expects parameter 1 to be resource, boolean given in /home/username/foldername/libraries/joomla/database/database/mysql.php on line 726

Have also started receiving numerous Joomla Update available that suggest a downgrade. EG:

An updated version of Joomla! is available.

Joomla! version currently installed: 2.5.16

Joomla! version available for installation: 2.5.9

Much thanks.

The warning (not error!) comes from poor error handling in Joomla! itself. I can't fix it and I don't even know which code could possibly cause it.

Regarding the downgrade, this is a stuck Joomla! update cache. Go to Extensions, Extension Manager click on the Update tab and click on Purge.
