What exactly is the format for excluding folders?

looked for this through tickets, but it seems to be a big secret, can't you provide a tooltip to explain this, not for just folders but also the files exclusion as well!

With folders exclusion do I use absolute path, OR from root path with '\' or without?.

Come on, don't keep it a secret spill the beans.

you are supposed to include directories one per line, relative to the site root, for example
administrator/cache
tmp
cache
log
