Since loading Admin Tools any new users added have been unable to login to the frontend. Users that were registered prior to Admin tools are able to login ok.

I have tried all the steps in the ticket #17091 as it is almost similar. However I am not up to speed with the browser debugging tools mentioned in this ticket and therefore seek your help.

What happened when you followed Nichols' suggestions in #17091? Under item 2, were your users able to log in when you disabled the "System - Admin Tools" plugin?

What did you find in your Security Exceptions log? That is referring to the Admin Tools log, not your server's error log.

There are no browser debugging tools mentioned in Nicholas' initial reply, all of this is withing Joomla! or Admin Tools.

Dale Thanks for responding. The security exceptions log shows the following after I tried the new user and got a error 500 at the front end:-

2014-05-13 08:18:06 IP Address Login failure http://www.website.co.uk/index.php/member.html

Is there a way to get an email when there is a response to a ticket on this ticket support system?

Dale I forgot to say that the problem persisted when the plugin was disabled. Also I got the following email from the site?

IP Address: my IP Address (IP Lookup: http://ip-lookup.net/index.php?ip=(my IP address))
Reason: Login failure (Username: Fiona -- Password: xxxxxxxxx)

Thanks

dlb
If the problem persists when the Admin Tools plugin is disabled, then Admin Tools is not causing the problem. Disabling the plugin would disable the WAF. That leaves GeoIP blocks and the .htaccess file. Neither seem likely given your description of the problem. You can disable the GeoIP plugin (if you have it installed) and restore the standard Joomla! .htaccess file to test these two possibilities.

I asked Nicholas about this, he said:
I suspect that newly added users are added to the wrong user group, or he changed the permissions of the user group these users belong to, depriving them of the front-end login privilege. Essentially, this is an ACL issue. If he can’t figure it out himself my standard reaction is to tell them to buy an ACLManager.net subscription and have Sander take a look at their site. He’s the Joomla! ACL guru and he’s far more efficient at this kind of issues than me.

Dale Thanks for that information. I had already subscribed to ACLManager following the advice in the documentation. The users are in the right group "registered"
If Sander can have a look I would be much obliged. Can you arrange that?

dlb
You can contact Sander directly. You can file a support ticket on his site.
