Hello Akeeba,

I updated a whole clients site today Joomla 2.5.16 -> 2.5.20.

At least I wanted to update AdminTools 2.2.6 Pro to 3.3.0 Core and got a blank page as result, when set error_display to max it said sth about the core.php-systemplugin combinecache function (line 82), which was used before - the combined cachefiles are still at its place.
I did search, found that the whole admin-components area /admintools was deleted during upgrade, because this strange message:
administrator/components/com_admintools/sql/install/mysql/uninstall.sql was not found
while trying an uninstall.

after manually uploaded the components-admintools section, came an errormessage at trying to enter to admins components is:
Function 'AEAutoloader' not found (function 'AEAutoloader' not found or invalid function name)

Recounting the assets table of first 50 extensions at the list brought something that I really wonder about:
6 components seem to lost their xml-datas (com_jce, com_cjlib, com_jvotesystem, com_nonumbermanager, com_xmap, com_checkin)

Of course, the easiest way to do my job is... I do the upgrade process with a backup I did again.

These infos maybe help you a little bit, I have seen during my search here that some people have similar probs... if you need some more infos or the errorlog etc., feel free...

best wishes,
Pierre.

No further information is necessary, it is crystal clear to me. Joomla! failed to write files to your server's disk due to a server timeout error (hence the firsts blank page). As a result Admin Tools was half-upgraded, hence the second blank page and the errors you saw. This must have happened when upgrading the other components as well, hence the missing XML files.

The recommended action plan for upgrading Admin Tools is to first disable the System - Admin Tools plugin, then delete the following folders from your site:
  • administrator/components/com_admintools
  • components/com_admintools
  • media/com_admintools
  • plugins/system/admintools

Then try installing Admin Tools 3.0.0. If any of these directories is not written (or not written fully) and you end up with a blank page again you will have to ask your host to increase the max_execution_time in their php.ini.
