Hi! On one of the websites we maintain there are a lot of people trying to login with 'admin' or 'administrator' as username. Because there is no user 'admin' or 'administrator' they will of course not get in.

We also block users who try this several times with the automatic blocking.

I was just wondering if it would be possible in Admin Tools to automatically block a user when they try to use the username 'admin'. Right away.

Another question: If I get an email saying 'We would like to notify you that a security exception was detected on your site ...', is this an attempt t login to the backend or frontend or both?

We can protect the backend with a extra URL paramter so they won't even get to the CMS login screen. But we can not dot this in the frontend.

Or should I just not worry about the admin login attempts? They won;t get in anyway... Maybe extra measures (like IP blocking) would only slow down the site.

Kind regards,
Jip

Hello Jip,

no, you can't ban users based on the user login, however you can apply several layers of protection on your backend: you can add a secret param, protect with an extra username and password, change the entry point of the administrative directory.

Moreover, you can even disable Super Users to log in from frontend.
