Sorry to start a new thread, please feel free to copy this over to #25708 – Password Protection in Admin Tools broken. I wanted to reply there, but there was no reply button.

Up till recently, I have also used a PW with a '!' in it and it's been fine, even on sites after an upgrade to AT 4.0. However, I did a fresh Joomla 3.6 install this morning, and added AT 4.0. Added the Master PW as per usual, set all to YES and saved. After that I was completely locked out of doing anything in AT. The site operated fine, but I just could not set up AT. Deleted, reinstalled, same. Didn't try a double installation as was suggested.

So I deleted again, and installed an older version 3.xxx something, and it was fine. This time, when doing the Master PW, I made it without special characters. Then upgraded to 4.0 and everything is working fine. I've been noticing your warning about special characters during installs, Nicholas, but have continued, successfully, to use them. After all, we're taught to make PWs difficult.

Anyway, this isn't a support request, but some testing results for you. Seems that, maybe, special characters have caught up with us.

Actually, it is a bug in Admin Tools 4.0.0 that has not been caught by anybody during the nearly two months of betas and RC versions. Please try installing the latest dev release from https://www.akeebabackup.com/download/developer-releases/admin-tools-professional/rev5604f05.html and tell me if that fixes the issue you were facing.

Beautiful - works fine! Thanks Nicholas. Love the new button look too BTW.

I noticed, yesterday as well, a different bug on 4.0 too. I'd enter the master PW and it would appear not to accept it (the PW field would stay visible) but I could get into the WAF. I cannot remember which site I was on that did that now, so I'll just go through and update all my sites (have about 60 currently) and see if I experience that again.

If you need another tester anytime, I'm happy to use pre-launch editions on sites I'm in the process of building. Normally have 3-6 going at any one time. As they aren't production I am happy to test either AT or Backup on them while I'm building.

Cheers

Hi Ian!

The second bug you reported is closely related to the first one. I fixed both in the dev release. Basically, in some places we typed none instead of raw for the password field's input filter and in another place we forgot to specify a filter. I did an audit of the inputs and fixed that before making this dev release.

When we have major changes coming up to our software we roll out betas and RCs. Whenever we do, we write an article in our News section and share it on social media. Are you following us on Facebook? If you don't, please do so now. We don't share a lot – I hate companies oversharing marketing yapping ten times a day as much as the next guy. Our rate of posts is typically once or twice a month and it's mostly important information you need to know about our products or the occasional event sponsorship. That's where we announce beta runs and I'm more than grateful for any extra pair of eyes looking at these versions on a real world site –even under development– before I release the stable versions :)

I just liked the page, so I guess that'll do it. I already followed you on Twitter, but don't remember seeing any notifications in email about any of your posts. Will have to look back and check.
