Unable to update Joomla using the Joomla Update component. (using Write files directly)

Akeeba Backup Pro successfully makes backup, then a redirect fails with a alert that 'could not open robots.txt.dist for writing.
Therafter, the update progress simply remains at 0% as long as I wait on the page.

i read: https://docs.joomla.org/J3.x:Upgrading_from_Joomla_3.4.x_to_3.5

Thanks,
Maha

Hello,

This is an automatic reply to a common question we detected in your ticket.

If you are using Admin Tools 4.0.0 or any of its beta / RC pre-release versions you must update manually to Admin Tools 4.0.1 or later.

Up to date information on this issue AND the fix can be found in our announcement. Please follow the instructions on that link. It contains all the information we can provide on this issue. We apologize for the inconvenience.

If the instructions did not work for you please reply back to your ticket on our site, not by email, and let us know what you tried already (the more details you give the better).
I am a bot, not a human. I am here to help you.

It looks like the update happened. However, I had to close the page and re open the admin system information.

Hopefully all is well with the site and nothing is broken.

Thanks,

Please note that the issue you are reporting actually comes from Joomla! Update, not Akeeba Backup. Joomla! Update is part of Joomla! itself. I understand your confusion since we contributed this feature to Joomla!. Even though it's outside the scope of our support I'll try to help you.

The message you got means that your host does not allow updating your site using direct file writes. This also means that nothing was written to your site, therefore your site is not broken. (Side note: even if it was broken, the backup you took with Akeeba Backup would suffice to restore it back to working order; that's why you're taking backups before the update!). So, the best course of action is to use the "Hybrid (use FTP only if needed)" installation mode of Joomla! Update which was built for sites like yours. You need to provide it with your site's FTP information as well.

As you may have noticed, Joomla! Update's file writing options are exactly like Akeeba Kickstart's when restoring a backup archive. In fact, it is the Akeeba Kickstart's brains under the hood, called Akeeba Restore, which extract the update ZIP file on your site.
