We currently use Joomla's Site Off-line feature when we want to take our site offline for Maintenance. The problem is registered users can still get in even when the site is offline, this compromises our maintenance work.

I would like to use AT's Emergency Offline... I realise the implications ie IP address.

But what I wanted to know is if and when we use this option, is a message displayed when visitors try to access the site?

I can't see anything in the documentation

The file offline.html from your site's root, if it exists, will be displayed to the users coming from a different IP address. You will need to create that file yourself. If you don't, a default one will be created. This is already documented: https://www.akeeba.com/documentation/admin-tools/emergency-offline.html

It creates —if it doesn't already exist— a static HTML page named offline.html in your site's root. This page contains the offline message to show to visitors.

You can use any JPG, PNG or BMP image in it. You cannot use any CSS files but you can inline the CSS in a style tag in the document's head section.

Hi Nicolas,

Thanks for the speedy and clear response. Apologies as I did not read the documentation well enough to spot the following:

  • It creates —if it doesn't already exist— a static HTML page named offline.html in your site's root. This page contains the offline message to show to visitors.

Sorry to have wasted your valuable time!

Kind regards

David
