Hi there,

I have a problem when using the .htaccess, created by the htaccess maker.

When the site is accessed with EDGE, FF, IE all is fine, but when it is accessed with CHROME and the user wants to view a .pdf, it shows only a garbled text, instead of opening the default .pdf viewer (like Adobe Reader).

I know that CHROME is not supporting the direct viewing of .pdf anymore, but should redirect the content to the viewer.

If I use the Joomla! default .htaccess, everything works fine with CHROME, if I use FF & Co. also with the created .htaccess everythig works as expected, only CHROME fails with the created .htaccess.

Can you advise the correct setting/exemption for this issue?

Try setting "Automatically compress static resources" to No and then Save and Create .htaccess. Does that work?

If it did ask your host if they are using the Litespeed web server. If they do, they need to update it. There was a bug in Litespeed which resulted in a compressed stream being sent to the client with the wrong headers. Most web browsers figure it out but WebKit browsers and tools such as cURL which follow the web standards correctly simply dumped the compressed stream as raw data. I suspect this is what is going on. We discovered that bug a couple of months ago and reported it to LiteSpeed through the host of my personal blog (Rochen). LiteSpeed fixed the issue and issued a new version within a couple of days.

Hi Nicholas,

thanks for swift reply, even on Sunday :-)

Compression is already set to "No" :-(

I will contact my host (STRATO) and will see what they say.

Will revert again

Best Regards
Hartmut
