I'm having some trouble reaching the administration console on a client's site after adding www to their domain.

Have a client who is using their public domain name in their private domain name space and has discovered a lot of trouble trying to reach things on the website from inside their network. He wants me to start forcing the "www" on their domain name. When I go into AdminTools and set this up I can no longer get into the administrator console. I don't know if it's LoginGuard or AdminTools . . . I'm guessing LoginGuard. I can get to the 2 Step auth, but when I use my YubiKey to log in I get a 404 error. I messed around and messed around until I ended up getting my IP address blocked. I'm wondering if I can get some advice as to what I need to do to force the "www"?

First of all, disable both LoginGuard and Admin Tools system plugins. They shouldn't have anything to do with your issue, though. The only thing which could be a problem is if you use a Security Key (U2F) for LoginGuard because that is tied to the exact URL of the site.

Then delete the .htaccess file of the site. This fixes your problem and lets you log into the site.

Go to Admin Tools, .htaccess Maker and scroll all the way to the bottom. You'll see the domain name of the site in two fields. Put the www in front.

Scroll almost all the way up. You will see the www to non-www redirection option. Set it to redirect the non-www to the www version of the site.

Click on Save and Create .htaccess

Now edit your site's configuration.php file. If the $live_site parameter is not empty remember to include the www in there as well. If it's empty, however, leave it empty.

Now you can re-enable LoginGuard and Admin Tools system plugins.
