I have Joomla "Attachments" set up on some my websites and yesterday and as the site had been upgrded to Joomla 3.9.18 I decided that I would remake the .htaccess file for the site which hasn't been done for some time. I now find that I can't download the attachments and get a message below. It doesn''t seem to matter what the file format is ie .pdf or .doc you get the same result. I can't see any permissions that have changed anywhere which are set to public access.

You don't have permission to access this resource.

http://www.holytrinitywestlulworth.org.uk/index.php/news/church-clock and click on the attachments at the bottom of the screen

Any hints or suggestions would be most welcome.

Thanks Dennis

Dennis,

A not so recent change to Admin Tools requires an exception in .htaccess for any files that need to be directly accessed outside the /images or /media folders.

If you have a folder such as /downloads that you need to access file in, you must add that folder to "Allow direct access, except .php files, to these directories" in .htaccess Maker and re-generate your .htaccess file. Just add the folder name in the field on a line by itself.

Excellent that worked. I guess that I made the .htaccess file some time ago and since then despite regularly updating Admin Tools Professional I haven't changed it . Perhaps a line in the documentation would help ?

Thanks very much. Dennis

Dennis,

I"m glad that fixed it.

The problem with putting things in the documentation is that pretty soon the documentation looks like the Encyclopedia Britannica (I'm showing my age!) and it's too intimidating for anyone to use it. The description of the field is there, it just didn't answer the question in the way you were thinking about it. We try to get it all in there, sometimes it's too much, sometimes not enough.
