Joomla! version: 2.5.6
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: Akeeba Backup Professional 3.5.2

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Can I use SFTP to transfer my backup file(s) to a remote FTP server? I now use 'regular' ftp. But I would like for this to be a bit more secure. The remote FTP server does support SFTP. I also can login to that server throught SFTP form my local computer. But the upload of the backup file with Akeeba Backup does not work right now (for me). Or maybe my webserver needs some adjustment, maybe to the firewall?

Thanks!

With regards,
Jip.

Please note that there is no SFTP post-processing engine, i.e. you can not transfer a backup archive to another server via SFTP. Also note that SFTP and FTPS are two different protocols. SFTP is file transfer encapsulated in SSH (secure shell). FTPS (which is supported by the Upload By FTP post-processing engine) is a regular FTP connection over SSL. It's apples and oranges. You can't use an SFTP server with FTPS. They talk a different language, they can't communicate.

Thanks for your explnation. So if I get it right:

I can not transfer my backup to my remote server using SFTP. (Is this maybe going to be possible in the future?)
I can transfer my backup using FTPS, but ONLY 'implicit SSL'
I can not transfer my backup using FTPS 'explicit SSL'?

My remote server support both SFTP and FTPS, but FTPS only with explicit SSL.

This means I now only am able to use 'plain' FTP for now, with the 'setup' I have.

Exactly. I am planning on including an SFTP archive transfer engine in a future version. I am reluctant to do so because it requires a PHP module which is very often not available on production hosts.

Yes, that's correct.

I can not transfer my backup using FTPS 'explicit SSL'?

No, PHP does not seem to support this method.

This means I now only am able to use 'plain' FTP for now, with the 'setup' I have.

Unfortunately, yes.
