You can disable the "System - Backup on update" plugin to disable the automatic backup before the update. You should have a current backup before the update. Are your normal backups running as expected?

Nope: BackUp Now button seems inactive. Can't proceed with upgrade to 3.6 until I can do a Backup. Maybe Site Ground server is complaining but no messages that I have noticed yet.

Dale, Here is the log from when I started the site. No backups since then. Probably not much use to you.

dlb
The log did not come through. Since a manual backup will not start either, we need to install Akeeba Backup twice, back to back, without doing anything in between. This trick normally works around a Joomla! installer bug where it fails to copy all of the files during installation or upgrade. This is an old bug that hits about 5% of the time, many people have looked for it but nobody has been able to pin it down yet.

What I am thinking is that your backup will not start because some of the files are missing.

I have done multiple sequential installs of 5.1.2 Pro but the Backup button is still dead in the water. Log file attached again.

Please try cleaning your browser's cache. What you see sounds suspiciously like either a stuck browser cache (an old Javascript file is being served) or a Javascript error caused by a third party plugin killing all Javascript on the page, including Akeeba Backup's. Let Dale know if that worked (I'll be out of office today).

Hi Nicholas & Dale, You might be right. A colleague did the backup and upgrade to 3.6 OK for me from his PC. He agrees that a JS conflict is probably involved. Chrome on MacOS cache sucks, but I was using FF ? Thanks for your help.
