EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

Hi, This issue may or may not be related to your product but as everytime I have backed up in the past your product automatically takes over and performs a backup before allowing the upgrade to proceed I thought it was reasonable to ask you.

Basically, my Joomla Updater Component is not working
Firstly it has stopped showing if any updates are available. I found lots of help online for this, Fix database Change the update Channel, but none of then solved the problem it just displays this message

No updates available.
You are on the "Default" update channel. Through this channel you'll receive notifications for all updates of the current Joomla release (3.x)

Eventually, I tried with some success the Upload and Update which worked for a couple of updates but now this generates an error code 403 access denied
Followed by this

Warning

JFTP: :store: Bad response.
Warning: Failed to move file: /tmp/phpLalPnJ to htdocs/tmp/juK0JXUS
×
Error

COM_INSTALLER_MSG_INSTALL_WARNINSTALLUPLOADERROR

Have tried both the write files directly and the FTP option all with the same result
Have checked the permissions of all the file and directories, they are all accessible and writeable by the system and FTP so I am now at a loss

I was wondering if the JFTP: :store: Bad response.
Warning: Failed to move file: /tmp/phpLalPnJ to htdocs/tmp/juK0JXUS was relevant to Akeeba taking over the process

Any suggestions appreciated and apologies if this has nothing to do with the Joomla problem

If your Joomla! update is being blocked by the backup failing, we can fix that. Simply disable the System - Backup on update plugin. That will disable the automatic backup.

That is the only piece that is Akeeba related. The Joomla! Update cache just get contrary sometimes. You can usually beat it into submission with two steps:
  1. Go to Extensions, Joomla! Update and click the purge button
  2. Do the same thing in the Extensions, manage, update

The JFTP error is coming from Joomla!'s FTP layer. It probably means that the setup is not right, usually the initial directory. Go to your site with your FTP client, go to the root of the site (where Joomla! is installed). Note the remote path. That is usually the proper initial path for the FTP layer. There are exceptions depending on the server setup.

For more help with the Joomla! Installer you will have to go to the Joomla! forums.
