EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.
I zipped together several log files (reason: see below)

Description of my issue:
Every time I try to update Joomla from 3.5.0 to 3.5.1 through the Joomla Updater in the Control Panel. First, I tried disabling the Auto Backup on Update plugin and it still tried to perform the backup anyway. Then after reading this one: https://www.akeebabackup.com/support/akeeba-backup-3x/24775-backup-starts-despite-akeeba-backup-update-check-being-disabled.html
I thought to try to disable the component altogether (before going to the drastic measure of uninstalling.) Then when I read above about the ALICE troubleshooter, I thought to re-enable the component and try that before requesting support here.
Also I saw the note at the end of the above support ticket about contacting support on this before uninstalling!
Now every time I try to update Joomla I get the Akeeba component not found 404 error page.
I enclosed several log files in the zip file so that you could see before I disabled the component and after.. as the one didn't seem to have much information.

Now, I don't have any idea how to proceed. Please, help! : )

You did exactly the right thing. Disabling the Backup on Update plugin will disable this feature. What happened in your case is the enabled plugin is cached by your site, you need to manually clear the cache or wait for it to time out for the new plugin status to be recognized. It is not just the Joomla! cache that could be the problem, it could also be a host level cache that caches the entire site.

Thanks for the super fast reply!
I had already cleared the cache within Joomla before writing in -- is there another area I can clear it?
So, if I just wait maybe an hour or so, I should be able to go back and work with it, whichever state it is in?

If your host is providing a cache, you would have to talk to them about how to manually clear it. Even though you can wait it out this time, that may be useful information in the future.

Yes, I think this will go away on it's own.
