HI folks,

For some reason, changes to my backup profiles are not taken ... and the Config Wizard always appears.
I read a post which explains that the CW will continually appear if one can not save a profile. But.. the quesiton remains...

What can cause the inability to save a profile?

I reset the perms via Akeeba tools, and the correct folders appear to be in place and accessible.

I look forward to any insight.
Cheers.

Let's make sure you have a good install. Please download Akeeba Backup from our Downloads page, if you haven't already, and install it twice, back to back, without doing anything in between. Do not uninstall, that will cause you to lose your settings and possibly your stored backup archives.

Thanks for the quick reply.
In troubleshooting this issue, I had uninstalled and re-installed Akeeba Backup Core and unfortunately, as you mentioned, I lost my settings and backup logs.

However, I just tried re-installing twice... still no go. the CW appears and I can't save a profile. For example, I open a profile, set to only backup the db, Save... but this change doesn't persist.

I'm sorry, it is Friday afternoon and you're only allowed to ask really easy questions. Please try again. :-)

Let's go to Options in the upper right corner, on the Security tab, set Use Encryption to "No". We don't really want it that way, I'm testing.

LOL... Yes... simple questions for a Friday.. I like it.

and... easy solutions too... It worked! I can now save and am no longer pestered by CW.

Is is a bug in AB? Should I keep this off?

The good news is that you can save the config.

The bad news is that it's an ugly fix. The backup configuration can contain passwords and should be separately encrypted. Your particular server setup is missing the mcrypt module, which is used for the encryption. You need to contact your host about adding that module. It is very common and should be dead easy for them. When they get it installed, please undo what we did above and re-enable the encryption.

Have a good weekend!

Thanks for the explanation Dale. Makes sense. Good news is I'm planning on switching hosts for this client in a couple of weeks.

Have yourself a beer, juice or water... whatever you fancy and go enjoy the weekend :)

Thanks again for resolving this promptly.
