Hi !
I follow the "story" about changes in WP and 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 version of plugin.
I had the lost profile probleme on 10 websites, so i know the pain of this problem ;)

I see today that all 8.x version are no more available, true ?

This is for a best 8.1 with all bug resolved ?

Thanks.

I pulled version 8. At some point in the future we'll come back with version 8.1 which will be a manual update. Don't hold your breath. It will be a while.

It is clear to me that WordPress cannot be trusted to update plugins with any moderate to big changes in their structure. It can absolutely NOT be trusted when the update requires a post-upgrade migration. Since there is no way to go from version 7 to 8 without a migration, it cannot be used, hence the need for a manual update.

We will remove support for WordPress' plugins updater. The more I look at it the more obvious it becomes that it was written for plugins of the complexity of "Hello Dolly", or at most plugins which are willing to carry their early mistakes forever like WordPress does (I will never get over the fact that wp_content uses the literal strings yes / no in a VARCHAR column instead of an integer or an ENUM; that's grade-A bullshit database structure right there!).

We are also going to go through a more thorough refactor to minimise the number of different plugin initialisation entry points which currently lurk around due to WordPress' subpar architecture.
