Good morning, several sites gave this error:

Composer detected issues in your platform: Your Composer dependencies require a PHP version ">= 7.4.0".
There has been a critical error on this website.

I've noticed they had Akeeba Backup 8.0.0.

When I downgraded it to 7.9.2 problem was solved.

Also I could not download a newer version than 7.9.2. from my account.

Had version 8.0.0 an issue?

Thanks.

Apparently you think you have PHP 7.4 but, in fact, you do not. Please talk to your host. I suspect you are missing a line from your .htaccess file to enable PHP 7.4 (or later) on your site. I strongly recommend PHP 8.1 or later. PHP 7.4 is End of Life since last November, and PHP 8.0 will become End of Life in 6 weeks.

I know about php 8 but still. Why does there is a 8.0.0 version and I cannot download it?

Also a lot of sites now I need to change the default output directory back to what it was, [SITEROOT]backups

The configuration wizard starts when I click Akeeba in the dashboard. Why?

To cut a long story short, WordPress 6.3 introduced an undocumented backwards incompatible feature which meant that despite us telling it otherwise, it deleted the plugin's folder. As a result, it removed the secretkey.php file we had generated which contained the encryption key to your backup profile settings. Therefore, your backup profile settings were lost. That's why we pulled the 8.0.0.x releases from our server and our site.

You will need to perform a manual update to the next version. That next version, 8.1.0.b1, was just released. Please read https://www.akeeba.com/news/1759-akeeba-backup-for-wordpress-8-1-0-beta.html and install the new version. Future updates will once again be automatic AND they will not have a problem. We are now moving the secretkey.php file into your site's wp-content folder which is never deleted. This means that future updates will definitely delete the plugin's folder but it doesn't matter; nothing will break as a result.

Thank you Nicholas. I understand how it works now and great that there is a solution for the next update.

Have a nice day.
