EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

The new Dropbox Authentication Step 1 does not work. It opens a panel but nothing gets populated to the page.

The log does show that the process is failing at the Dropbox step, however, it does not show the error.

Please do the following to see what other errors are reported:

Go to global configuration, enable debug mode, retry. You should now see a PHP error.

Can you please copy & paste it here?


We can then try to track down the issue further.

Hi,

I enabled Debug in the Joomla Global Config. Ran the Dropbox Authentication Step 1 but no error was created, that I could see.

The pop-up provides this address but nothing ever appears in the frame.:

I have now identified the root cause of tis issue on the affected servers and a new release which addresses the issue will be published as soon as people stop flooding me with support requests

Hi -- I upgraded to 3.4.1 and the first Dropbox authentication step now works (FYI the popup window is too small and you have to drag the bottom down to see the "allow" button.)

Now when try Step 2 I get:
Error: could not complete authentication: please retry.

Retrying does not help.

1. Go to our Downloads page, re-download (mandatory) Akeeba Backup Professional 3.4.1. Do not use an already downloaded package.
2. Go to your site's Extensions, Install/Uninstall (Joomla! 1.5) or Manage Extensions (Joomla! 1.7/2.5) and install the package you just downloaded.
3. Retry.

If this still doesn't work, it's something on your server and I don't know what. I can't replicate it on any server under my control.

Technical notes: as per the official Dropbox API both request_token and access_token methods are supposed to be accessed with a POST request. This is EXACTLY what we're doing. On some (broken) servers, this results to an invalid signature being generated which causes the reported issues. I have checked the signing method and it is correct. The base string Dropbox expects to be signed AND the signature are correct, but you seem to have a broken cURL implementation which sends some (or all? I can't tell) of the request parameters in a wrong format to the server. As a result, I have updated the code to use GET instead of POST, which is bound to stop working at some point as it is AGAINST the official Dropbox implementation. The same problem could occur past the authorisation process, when uploading files to Dropbox. If this happens, either update cURL and the PHP cURL extension on your server, or you will not be able to use Dropbox. There's only so much I can do about it.
