PHP version: (5.3)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (Rackspace Cloud Site)
Akeeba Backup version: (Pro 3.4.3)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

The documentation is not clear on backing up to Rackspace Cloud Files. I do have the API key, but I don't know what is meant by ".cloudfiles.username" that I can put as parameter. I would like to use containers from Cloud Files to separate the different clients that I support. Is this the "user name"?

THanks

Cloud Drive and Cloud Files are two unrelated services. Akeeba Backup supports Cloud FILES. You have to sign up for CloudFiles and everything will be crystal clear in the documentation, trust me.

Thanks for the reply Nicholas.

I am using Cloud Files. What I am after is if I can upload the backup to a container that I have set up. Is that possible?

Thanks

Yes, of course. This is exactly what the Cloud Files integration in Akeeba Backup does. However, you do need the API key. Here's how. Login to your cloud control panel. Click on Your Account, API Access from the left hand menu. You see your username on top. Right below there is the API Key shown as dots. Click on Show Key to reveal it. There you go! You now have both your username and API Key :)

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I have the User name & API key. How do I setup on AkeebaBackup so the backup can be placed in specific container automatically?

Hope this is clearer.

It should be fairly straightforward. You need to enter your username in "Username", API key in "API Key" and container name in "Container". Leave the default "Directory" entry which is a single forward slash; that tells Akeeba Backup to use the site's root.

If it is a UK account (you are a customer of rackspace.co.uk, not rackspace.com) also check the "Is it a UK account" checkbox. If, on the other hand, you have a US account you must not check that box. Please note that US and UK accounts use different API endpoints and are not interchangeable. Using the wrong setting here will certainly cause a transfer error as RackSpace will reject your login.

I have tested that with a UK account, as the US site doesn't accept my credit card. Other clients have, however, been using US accounts for nearly two years an didn't have a problem related to CloudFiles integration (they came here due to unrelated backup issues, that's how I know that they are using US accounts).

While we are at it, in order to ensure smooth transfers from your site's back-end you will probably have to set up a small value for the Part Size for Split Archives. More information can be found in the Basic Configuration section of our documentation's "Backing up your site to a cloud storage service" chapter. That section applies to all remote storage engines, not just Dropbox and Amazon S3.
