Hello Nicholas

I have a quick question for you. I have installed wordpress in it's own directory with it's own database user and database on the same server as my main joomla install to use as my client's blog. I have noticed AKEEBA is backing-up all the files for wordpress, but can I configure AKEEBA to back-up the wordpress database too? Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, you can! Go to Akeeba Backup and click on the Multiple Database Definitions. This allows you to define the connection to WordPress' database, allowing Akeeba Backup to back it up as well. During restoration Akeeba Backup Installer will allow you to restore both of the databases, Joomla! and WordPress. This is the exact use case I designed this feature for :)

Oh wow, that's great news. And do you think in your opinion is okay to run wordpress and joomla on the same server using different databses? Or is it better practice to have two servers, or maybe even share the same database on the same server for both installs?

As long as you follow the best security practices for both CMS it's perfectly safe running them under the same domain. I wouldn't recommend sharing the database, though. Sometimes you may want to do a partial manual restoration of only Joomla! or only WP. Having all tables in the same db makes such a procedure very hard to accomplish.
