EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
The problem is with Akeeba "System - System Restore Points" plugin. As you suggested, I disabled it and now I'm able to install extensions again. Note that I already had installed ver. 3.6.1, so it seems there is still an issue with that plugin.

Cannot replicate. I personally tested it on a dozen different servers with various PHP versions. I had another half dozen users testing it with their own PHP 5.2 servers before release. Another four users tried 3.6.1 and it solved the problem for them. One note: all of us tried on PHP 5.2.11 or later. It's either a bug with antiquated versions of PHP released four years ago (like the one on your server) or the update to AB 3.6.1 failed. I can't fix something I can't replicate and which looks like it's not actually a bug.
