Mandatory information about my setup:

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? Yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? Yes

Joomla! version: both 1.5.26 and 2.5.7
Akeeba Backup version: Professional 3.4.3 on 1.5.26 and Professional 3.6.5 on 2.5.7

Description of my issue:

I've set up Akeeba Backup on several sites for remote storage of backup files on Amazon S3. I've also set Akeeba to delete the backup files from S3 after 15 days. While creating and transferring the backups is running fine, files are not deleted.

When investigating this issue, I've found out that manual deleting the remote files does not work either. I get a modal box with two different messages: one claiming success of deleting the files, the other stating that remote file operations are not available (see attachment). Anyway, on Amazon I can see that the files are not deleted.

Do you have any suggestions as to how to solve this problem?

Kind regards, Frits

Remote files are only removed when you have set "Enable remote quotas" to Yes in the Akeeba Backup profile's configuration page. If this is not set, Akeeba Backup will not attempt to delete remote files.

Regarding the second part of your question, it makes sense. Akeeba Backup removes the remotely stored file. As a result, as soon as the remote file is deleted, there are no more actions to perform on it. Just close the lightbox and reload the page.

I'm afraid they are not removed even with this setting. See screenshot.

Unfortunately this is not the case either: the files are still present when viewing them with the Amazon management console. I refreshed it several times, but they're still there.

I thought that maybe I should change a setting at Amazon? But I cannot find anything on Amazon that seems to correspond to this issue.

Maybe your S3 user does not have delete privileges for this bucket? I cannot replicate this issue with Akeeba Backup 3.6.6.rc1.

I can see these settings for my bucket (see attachment).

Normally you should have adequate privileges. Can you please upgrade to Akeeba Backup 3.6.6.rc1 (on your Joomla! 2.5 site) and retry? Please note that the old versions of Akeeba Backup which run on older versions of Joomla! are not supported; I can't guarantee that there is no bug affecting you when using 3.4.3 on Joomla! 1.5. I just can't check it or provide support any more.

Hi Nicholas,

In the meantime I've upgraded to Akeeba Backup Professional 3.6.8 (2012-10-20) on all 2.5 sites. Yet this makes no difference for this issue. I'll submit a help ticket @ Amazon as well. However, any suggestions from you are still very welcome.

Yep, I guess asking Amazon is the right thing to do.
