I have two small sites that need to be upgraded to Joomla 2.5

The oldest is Joomla 1.5.23 and the other is 1.7.2. Both are running Akeeba Backup Core 3.3.a3. They also use a variety of other extensions, some of which support 2.5 and others need to be replaced.

My goal is to create new sites on a different host running Joomla 2.5 and migrate to it. I have Backup Pro 3.6.7 licensed to use on the new sites.

Can I create backup files on the existing sites using the old version of Backup Core and then restore them in the new Joomla environment or do I need to upgrade the old sites to J 2.5 first (along with the extensions) and then use Backup Pro to migrate between the hosts?

One of the extensions that I need to replace is a photo gallery? Can I use Backup to extract the photos so they can be added into a different gallery or are the photos inextricably tied in with the gallery extension?

I realize I have a bunch of manual effort ahead, no matter which route I choose. I appreciate whatever guidance you can offer that would allow Backup to somewhat reduce that task. Thanks.

Akeeba Backup is not designed or even remotely capable of transferring content between different versions of Joomla!. You can only use it to transfer a site between hosts.

You will have to ask your gallery extension's developer.
