Description of my issue:

The CRON (main method) stopped working. It was working for a while, but then one day I'm getting this error line at the bottom of the output:

/usr/local/bin/php.cli: line 6: 580 Killed /usr/local/php53/bin/php -c "$INIDIR" "$@"

And of course the backup fails. It works fine when running manual backup.

Thanks for any help!

Please ask your host about it. This line tells you that the server killed the PHP script but it doesn't tell you why it did that. Your host should be able to tell you.

OK, my host was able to resolve.

Just in case you want to know, they had a CPU limit of 60 seconds that a script can run. I asked them to raise it, so they raised it to 180 seconds and all is good.

Thanks!

That makes perfect sense. I can usually come to this conclusion after seeing 2-3 logs, but I did suspect it. I'm glad that your host not only helped you find the cause but also implemented a viable workaround. Most hosts deny to do the latter. That's good news for your host, it means that the people there really care about their customers.
