Akeeba Backup's minimum requirement is Joomla! 1.5.15. Joomla! 1.5.3 was never supported by any version of Akeeba Backup. In fact, I am surprised it installed, let alone run on such an old version of Joomla!.

Please try the following config opts:

- Min execution time: 1 second
- Max execution time: 7 seconds
- Runtime bias: 75%

If that fails, try:

- Min execution time: 5 second
- Max execution time: 3 seconds (yes, max < min, not a typo)
- Runtime bias: 50%

If still fails, check your free disk space. If you have enough and your host confirms there is no other restriction (hidden disk quota, inode count quota and so on) ZIP and post the new log.

Check with host and have 140GB of space and walked through all serverside checks from troubleshooting article. Trying recommendations now.

I see something strange here. No matter what the settings are, the backup stops within 30 seconds of its start time. Let's try something more:

- Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
- Maximum execution time: 2 seconds
- Runtime bias: 50%
- Part size for split archives: 2Mb (find the Archiver Engine row, click on Configure, the option is in the pane which opens below)

If this still fails after around 30 seconds, please try backing up your site from a different computer, with a different browser, connected to the Internet on a different ISP.

The backup still failed at around the 30 sec mark.

I will try from my laptop using a different browser. I will not have access to another ISP until tomorrow.

Please let me know if there is anything else I can check.

Thanks

If the backup fails from another computer, browser and ISP then we can be certain that the problem lies with your host and you'll have to ask them why the process is being terminated. Most likely that would be an Apache mod_security or mod_evasive setting.

If the backup does work from another computer, browser and ISP then the problem lies in one of those three. I'd try using the original computer and ISP with a different browser (a brand new installation of  Chromium Portable on Windows, or a fresh installation of Chromium on Mac OS X or Linux is best). If that works, it's the browser. Otherwise I'd try using a different ISP. You get the idea.

I did a fresh installation of Chromium on my Mac and still got the problem. I contacted GoDaddy and elevated my request to the server support team to cheeck the Apache mod_security or mod_evasive settings and they said there is nothing on there end that has changed to cause this as it was working a couple of weeks ago.

Last week I did try to back up the site from my office (different computer MAC and ISP) and was experiencing the same problem. Tried My PC Laptop with Exporer and got the same. I am going to zip the site files and back up the database and install it on my local computer to see if I get the same problem.Β

I am currently working on the new 2.5 site but it will be some time before that is ready and I am nervous about the current site not having a backup with the amount of daily updates being made to the site.

I did de-install Akeeba backup and re-install prior to contacting you to see if that would correct the problem but made no difference.

Please let me know if there is anything else I am missing. I may try another back up componant as a stop gap but I really don't want to.

Thanks for your time

Oh, it's GoDaddy... I already feel sorry for you. They have pretty much the crappiest servers I've seen, thousands of clients on each server, lots of issues, inexplicable hangs and so on. Their crappy servers are only second to their abysmal service level. My experience with clients on GoDaddy is that either your site lands on a server where everything runs smoothly or it lands on a server where nothing works. My advice: switch hosts.
