Joomla! version: 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.17
MySQL version: 5.5.28
Host: CloudAccess
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.10

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

It appears to get through a lot of the backup, and then returns a failure - I have attached the zip file. I have a large site, and I am trying to back up to Amazon because there is not that much room on the drive. I am using CloudFlare for DNS becuase it helps keep away the DNS attacks, not sure if that is interfering. Please let me know if you have any questions.

This is a timeout error, happening as soon as the second archive part is about to be sent to Amazon S3. You have to use a smaller part size. Something between 2Mb and 20Mb works on 99% of sites.

At this point you're wondering "but you said the second archive part, doesn't this mean that the first got through?". And the answer to this question is no, it didn't. The first archive part is transferred last, after the end of the backup. This is because the first archive part contains the archive's header which contains infomraiton about the total number of parts, total number of files, total uncompressed and compressed size. This information is only known at the end of the backup, so we have to hold back and upload it only after the backup is complete.
