You are probably backing up your old backups. Maybe you have some big leftover files from something. Maybe it's something else. Without the log file your guess is as good as mine. Can you please ZIP and attach the backup log file so that I can be more precise?

The first thing I look for in the log in these cases is the phrase "large file". It tells me if there are any large files being backed up. Here you go:

INFO |121105 01:26:53|Breaking step _before_ large file: <root>/plugins/editors/jckeditor/typography/error_log - size: 367487867

You have a 350+ Mb error log file in JCKEditor's folder. This is what is bloating your backup.

My advice:

  • Use the File and Directory Exclusion feature of Akeeba Backup to exclude that file from the backup
  • Periodically delete that file. It's not necessary to let it bloat to several Gigabytes.
