Description of my issue:

First things first : a very happy & succesfull 2013! Thx a lot for the great extensions & support the last year. Keep up the good work.

Issue : I upgraded Akeeba Backup january first from 3.6.10 to 3.6.11. After the upgrade I noticed in the backend (Akeeba Backup Control Panel) that the upgrade notification icon shows after the upgrade. When you click on the icon, it shows the current version '3.6.11' and states there is a newer version '3.6.10'.I added a screenshot. I also noticed that there is no Dutch translation of the latest added notification about backups (unusable backups are as good as no backup). I installed the last available Dutch language pack.

I'm having another issue and I don't know if it's related to Akeeba extensions. After migrating a website from local to live, I noticed the Joomla extension upgrade notification icon states the message 'unknown extension upgrade status' instead of 'all extensions are up-to-date' or 'updates available'. On the dev site I didn't have this issue. It just showed after migrating. I posted a message on the JED forum, but no replies thus far. Any ideas ? (I tried to clear the update cache, but no change)

Happy New Year!

The update notification issue will go away in 6-12 hours. It has to do with the rate our update data propagates the CDN we use for delivery and the update caching done by Akeeba Backup itself. Most likely if you click on the icon and then click on "Refresh update information" it'll tell you that you have the latest version. If not, just wait a few hours.

This is not related to Akeeba extensions. However since I am very intimately acquainted with that code (actually, I built those icons) I think I might be able to help. The most likely causes are:

  • your live server doesn't have allow_url_fopen enabled. Ask your host. If they tell you it's disabled for "security reasons" please let them know that their PHP knowledge is about 6 years out of date. Since PHP 5.2.0 they only need to disable allow_url_include to prevent the security hole they are worried about. Disabling allow_url_fopen is an overkill.
  • your live server has a firewall which prevents outbound connections to your extensions' update servers. Ask your host.
  • your live server has a very low PHP timeout or memory limit, crashing the update code while it's checking for updates. You can try going to Extensions, Extension Manager, Updates and click on Purge Cache and Find Updates in this order. Then the update notification icon will work again.

Thx for your reply. All issues are solved. Once again ... great support!

Last question about the new release : in the changelog I read it is possible to send the update notification mails to certain super users (instead of all). I didn't find where to set this option.

Regarding your question, you will have to go to Extensions, Plug-in Manager and edit the System - Akeeba Backup Update Check plugin. It's the second option. You have to enter an email address of a Super Administrator there.
