Joomla! version: (unknown)
PHP version: (unknown)
MySQL version: (unknown)
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

You list "duplicate a site" as a feature of Akeeba, but I cannot find any documentation on it! Please point me in the right direction. I was to create two duplications of my site on the same server.

It's simpler than it sounds:

  • Backup the site
  • Create a new empty database on the new server
  • Upload the backup archive on the new server
  • Upload Kickstart on the new server
  • Start Kickstart and restore the site on the new server

That's pretty much it. Akeeba Backup is actually designed for site transfers. Backup and restoration is a subcase where the source and target are the same site.

If you want a different, albeit less reliable method, you can read our documentation on the Site Transfer Wizard feature. The process using STW boils down to:

  • Create a new empty database on the new server
  • Run the Site Transfer Wizard on the source site, giving it some connection information to the remote server
  • Let it do the transfer
  • Go through the restoration pages which display after the transfer. You just need to give the new database connection information.
