Mandatory information about my setup:

Joomla! version: 2.5.7
PHP version: 5.3.15
MySQL version: 5.5.23
Host: Hostgator
Akeeba Backup version: 3.6.12

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

We have four sites: one primary, then three others installed beneath the primary. They were built as such because the design elements and structure are identical---only content varies.

http://www.ofallon.mo.us/  --- backups work

http://www.ofallon.mo.us/parks&rec  --- created from backup of primary site; not working

http://www.ofallon.mo.us/PD  --- created from a fresh Joomla install; backups work

http://www.ofallon.mo.us/RSC  --- created from backup of primary site; not working

As such, I have Akeeba Backup (paid version) installed on each install of Joomla. My CRON job works perfectly for the primary site, and one other---however, I built the other two sites from backups of the primary site and the CRON job will not initiate, thus we're not getting scheduled backups.

I've tripled-checked my CRON commands---they're correct. Do I need to uninstall, then reinstall Akeeba on each of these subdirectory sites? The site with a fresh Joomla install + Akeeba works perfectly as a subdirectory install. Just curious if you've had others that have built sites from backups on the same server, and had similar results. Creating a site from the backup file couldn't have been any easier! Now, I just need backups to work. :)

Thanks, B

I can't of something which would prevent the backups from working except a wrong output directory. On each of the sites which are not working properly go to their Akeeba Backup Configuration page and set the output directory to [DEFAULT_OUTPUT] (exactly as you see it, including the sqaure brackets and underscore, all letters must be capital).

If this doesn't work I will need you to try taking a backup from the backend of each site. If the backup works, you have a problem with your CRON jobs. If it doesn't work, send me the log file so that I can help.

Thank you. I verified the setting you described, and was able to successfully complete a backup on each site. Therefore, it must be a CRON problem.

It puzzles me that two of the sites work fine, but the one I created from backups don't. :-/

However, I did notice in your documentation, there's a different path for CRON jobs for Hostgator.

What I'm using:

/usr/bin/php /home/*****/public_html/PD/cli/akeeba-backup.php

What your documentation says:

/usr/bin/php-cli /home/*****/public_html/PD/cli/akeeba-backup.php

I'm going to experiment with my CRON commands, and get in touch with their tech support if all else fails.

Thank you for your prompt response! Akeeba Backup has become indespensible software for us. -B

Read the documentation carefully. I actually say in so many words that the /usr/bin/php-cli path is not The Correct Path Which Works On All Servers™. It is more or less a placeholder. You have to ask your host to tell you which is the correct path to the PHP binary on their server. Also note that between /usr/bin/php-cli and the rest of the command line there is a space. I've seen more than one cases where the user forgot to type the space and, of course, nothing worked. I've done that myself by accident when I was using a keyboard with a sticky space bar key and was in a rush. It's easy to miss spotting the darn missing space when you're in a rush :)
