I hope you're not paying for this host. Here's what I see and pulling my hair off:

INFO |130121 08:49:13|Memory limit :32M
INFO |130121 08:49:13|Current mem. usage :24091232

The maximum memory usage allowed by this host is 32 Megabytes. The industry standard in 2013 is 128Mb. 32Mb was the standard five years ago, when a typical web application would only consume 4-5Mb of memory.

In your case, the second line tells me that Joomla! all by itself consumes 23Mb of memory. This leaves just 9Mb free. Akeeba Backup requires 12Mb to operate (it's a huge application, groking through immense amounts of data). As a result the backup won't run because you run out of memory.

If you absolutely cannot move your site to a better host which is up to par with modern day standards you might be able to run a backup if you make it dead slow with these settings:

  • Minimum execution time: 0 seconds
  • Maximum execution time: 1 seconds
  • Runtime bias: 50%

Please note that this throttles down the backup speed by approximately 90% and is not guaranteed to work. If you have too many database tables, database tables with many rows or folders with hundreds of files the backup will fail.

I see something strange. It takes 60 seconds to connect to your database. I have a suspicion. Can you please create a new backup profile, select it in Akeeba Backup's control panel page, run the Configuration Wizard on it and run a new backup with it? If the backup still fails please ZIP and attach the new backup log file.

Thanks. It worked. Not sure why, but as long as it works that's all that really matters to me so thanks.

BTW, the host is really good, quick and flexible, as you can see. No need to pull your hair off (or out) :)

Ah, now I know what happened :) Go to Akeeba Backup's Control Panel page and select your original backup profile. Now go to the Configuration page. Do you have any site overrides for the database in there? If you do, remove them. If not, go back to the Akebea Backup Control Panel page and click on the Multiple Databases Definitions button. Try removing anything you have defined in there.

BTW, the host is really good, quick and flexible, as you can see.

I have to admit, that's a pleasant surprise. Very few hosts are willing to change this kind of core PHP parameters for their clients.

No need to pull your hair off (or out) :)
