Description of my issue:

Hello Nicholas,

Unfortunately I've ran into a problem with Akeeba Backup; and I can't find the fix myself.

We have configured Akeeba Back-up to be automated with a Cronjob using the front-end option. Basically, we configure a cron job using the url http://mysite.com/pathakeebagenerates.

This works fine for most sites on Combell, but for some of them the back-up continuously fails. I don't understand the logs 100% but I think I'm seeing something about a time-out (just guessing).

What could cause these back-ups to fail? They're not that different from the others (same host, same size, Β about the same disk space left) who work fine.

I've attached the log file for one of the sites.

I'm looking forward to reply (and apologizing in advance if it's documented somewhere.)

Kind Regards,

Steven.

I don't see a timeout, but I do see two supiscious coincidences:

  • The backup stops after 10 steps, i.e. 10 redirects. Many hosts do have a limit of 10 or 20 redirections in their CRON daemons.
  • The backup stops after 130 seconds. Again, maybe there's a time limit there?

Provided that back-end backups work we can safely rule out issues owing to CPU/memory usage, timeouts, file sizes and so on.

Hello Nicholas,

We can use the back-end backups without a problem. That's a minimum requirement for me to host something anywhere - if Akeeba Backup indicates problems I know there'll be trouble later on.

Do you want me to contact the hosting company, or is there something else I can try?

I think you have to contact the hosting company, Steven. Ask them if those two things I suspect are what is really going on.
