Hi Nicolas, Comment about the new engine on the site transfer wizard. I tried it on a couple of sites and neither worked. First issue is formatting of the page itself was off once the first page came up about the transfer being to a new site do you want .... First site error -- CHARACTER SET `utf8` I was able to import the database in successfully as a work around. Second site, still formatting was off and the database imported successfully but I could not advance to site setup unless I canceled the restoration and then it went to site setup. I needed to edit the configuration.php file to get it to work but I think that might've been my mistake in entering the data during the site setup.

First site error -- CHARACTER SET `utf8`

What about it? This character set is something that's mandated by Joomla!. Without an error message I can't help you.

Second site, still formatting was off

Whose formatting? ANGIE's? If you don't see the formatting correctly, something's wrong on your target server. ANGIE uses a simple CSS and some Javascript to format the page. In fact it uses Bootstrap, the same CSS/JS framework used by countless sites like Twitter (invented there!) and Joomla! 3.

and the database imported successfully but I could not advance to site setup unless I canceled the restoration and then it went to site setup.

I'm confused. How can the database be imported if you had to cancel the restoration? And how exactly did you cancel the restoration, because there is no such feature.

The formatting looked like it was using 800x600 instead of matching the default resolution of the monitor I was using. Kind of like I didn't have the correct fonts or something odd. So the edges were off the display and the error message that popped up was off the display to the left by 30%. The error message it created was the one I pasted but it did also have the username doing the restoration added to it as:  "Admin CHARACTER SET `utf8' I don't know what might have been before that because the window was too far left to get a full view.

The second error the database DID restore properly but when I hit "Next" it did not advance from the restoration to the next step (site setup) When I clicked on stop restoration(?) it advance to site setup. I kid you not!

If you want I could do another couple of sites and use IE in one and Firefox in another and see what happens and screen print the look and errors. (if it errors) Again, this is just a comment I am able to work-around the issues and get the sites working so I'm not in panic mode by any means.

John,

I am not sure that you describe is what I've built. There is no such thing as "stop restoration" string or custom fonts. Honestly. Also what you describe as an error message is definitely not a MySQL error message. I believe you that you have a problem. I believe that your description is a bit off and doesn't help me understand what you're seeing. Can you please provide some screenshots where the address bar is visible? You may want to blur out the part of the address bar before /installation. I also want you to tell me if your URL looks like www.example.com/~something or 1.2.3.4/~something – these are temporary URLs and I know that the stylesheet will be broken on them.

Sorry Nicholas, I missed the email yesterday. Let me do a test transfer and see what happens. Be a few hours and a couple of coffees. -- John

This looks like IE8. I'm quite sure that Bootstrap –the CSS and JS framework used by ANGIE– doesn't work on old versions of Internet Explorer. Moreover, your window size seems to be 800x600, but Bootstrap (like all grid systems) is designed for at least 960px of usable page width, i.e. a 1024x768 screen resolution at minimum. Since you have an old browser and (I guess) old(-ish) hardware I'd recommend using Akeeba Backup Installer a.k.a. ABI for your backups. ABI was conceived over 3 years ago and should be able to work with at least IE7 and 800x600 screen resolution.

Sorry I thought I included the browser version in the stats. No it's IE 9.  It's not in compatibility mode. And my resolution is 1280x1024 system is a Windows 7 Pro 32 bit Dell Optiplex 380. Duo Core.  After running the last site transfer I took a good look at the windows that came up and the font and size seem to match the resolution. If they were centered it'd view fine. It's also not explaining why after the database restoration I have to select skip restoration to get to the site setup screen. I'll try it in other configurations and see what happens. If something earth-shattering happens I'll submit another ticket. I'll just see if anyone else has the same issue, I don't want to take your time hostage for something I can work around.

Also, for a wish list item on the Site Transfer Wizard it be awesome if I could select an option of FTP or Localhost transfer (source path to destination path)  That'd speed up the transfer a lot when I transfer sites on the same Web Server.

So go ahead and close the ticket if you'd like. Talk to you later.

No, sorry, you are wrong. I just checked again using:

  • IE9 on Windows 7 Home Basic
  • IE10 on Windows 8

Both machines were hooked up to a 18.5" Samsung TV/monitor combo with 1920×1080 resolution using a standard VGA cable. I was sitting 1m away from the monitor. The results of the tests are consistent: the only way to get the output shown in your screenshots is turning on the compatibility mode (broken page icon). Since I do not support anything less than Internet Explorer 9 I do not consider any bug to exist. ANGIE is incompatible with browsers I do not support using with ANGIE (compatibility mode actually loads a copy of IE7 to render the page). OK, no problem. If you want to use ancient browsers there's also the ancient installer, Akeeba Backup Installer :) That's why I chose to create a new installer instead of a new version of ABI: to give you choice.

There's only one thing I cannot reproduce: the very first screenshot you sent me. I can only do that if I either zoom the page (through the browser settings) or resize the window less than 3/5 of the screen's width.

Also, for a wish list item on the Site Transfer Wizard it be awesome if I could select an option of FTP or Localhost transfer (source path to destination path) That'd speed up the transfer a lot when I transfer sites on the same Web Server.

You're using the wrong method :) The STW is always very slow. Use a regular backup and set up the "Upload to Remote FTP Server" post-processing option. This will upload the full backup archive over FTP to the same server, which is 50x to 100x faster than STW's file-by-file transfer.

I have IE 9 and triple check for anything that might've been checked off. Nothing odd. I attached a picture to show you the build number of 9.

I'll try the other way to back up/restore. STW is slow but it's always worked! Well it use too. lol.

Hello John,

A couple of hours after my reply I found out why IE9 worked for me. Actually, this isn't my computer. I had to borrow my mother's computer (luckily, she lives downstairs and has a Windows 7 netbook). I had forgotten one important detail: I had installed Google Chrome Frame on her netbook so as not to have to explain to her that she needs to switch from IE to Chrome when a site doesn't load properly. When I disabled Chrome Frame I could see the same results as you did.

It appears that the latest version of Bootstrap isn't compatible with IE9 or earlier. Your only choice is to upgrade to IE10 (currently only available as a preview for Windows 7 users), use Google Chrome Frame or just use a decent, modern, standards-compliant browser such as Firefox, Chrome or Opera.

Ah good mystery solved. Thanks, I'll use Chrome next time around.

Ciao, I'm closing the ticket. Talk to you later.
