Description of my issue:

I have performed a backup using Akeeba Backup Core 3.4.3 (2012-03-21) on my Joomla 1.5 web site.

Can I install the latest Akeeba Backup Core 3.7.4 onto my new Joomla 3.0.3 based site and restore that backup file ?

If so how ?

David.

Hello David,

No, you can't. A backup is a complete copy of your site, files and database. You can't just restore a backup on top of a different Joomla! version and magically have the site upgraded to the new Joomla! version. In fact, if you do that you'll end up with a broken site. Nothing more and nothing less.

What you need to do is to migrate the content of your site from Joomla! 1.5 to Joomla! 3 and do a partial rebuild of your site. You will need an extension designed to do that. There are exactly two extensions: jUpgrade (free and paid versions) and SP Upgrade (paid version only).
