Description of my issue:

After installing extension ExtraWatch Pro.

Akeeba Backup takes much more time to backup.

My website has about 1100 pages and took upt to now about 2 minutes to backup.

After installing ExtraWatch Pro it takes about 32 minutes!!

Normaly backup "databases" takes a few seconds. Now it takes about 30 minutes.
After de-install this extensions, backup takes again the normal 2 minutes.

What's the problem? Did you have more of these complaints?

What's the solution?

Hello Wim,

Funny thing you asked me this question! I had not ever heard of ExtaWatch before today, when they sent me a spam message asking me if I know anything about Joomla! (say what?!) and offering me roughly one Euro per sale I'd bring them in. My first impression from that company is very negative. Seeing your support request, my second impression from that company is extremely negative.

OK, back to the issue at hand. The backup log file you have sent me shows that the backup starts on 07:54:19 and finishes on 07:55:29, that's one minute and 10 seconds. If you want me to help you I need a log file from a backup which takes forever to complete.

Educated guess: I am sure that I will see 1-2 minute delays before each page load which would perfectly explain why it's taking so long and why that third party component is to blame. But let me not poison the well. Send me the log file and I will talk with objective arguments and evidence of what is going on here.

Hello Nicholas,

That's a weird question indeed.....to mr Joomla himself...!

Formerly it was called Joomlawatch http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/site-management/analytics/visitors/3940
I only buy and install extensions if there are "enough" satisfied customers and in my opinion they have.
And I must say their extension looks great.
But I have great trust in you and your extensions and opinion.
When you discover strange matters in new log, I will de-install Extrawatch.

Thanks for your help!

Perhaps we meet at Joomla Days in Holland this weekend...

Best regards
Wim

Ah, I know them byntheir former name and I know what happens. Can you please try excluding the #__extrawatch_ip2c table using the Database Table Exclusion feature in Akeeba Backup and retry taking a backup?

OK Nicholas, that's the solution!
Backup takes now 2 min.

Knowing their former name does influence your opinion about this extension?

Thanks for your help!

Best regards
Wim

Hello Wim,

Nope, knowing their former name doesn't change my opinion on them. I've always had the feeling that these are outsourced development projects. Take my "feeling" here with a grain of salt. I usually have much higher standard to hold developers up to when evaluating software. It doesn't mean that software I don't like for some picky reasons is no good.
