hi nicholas!
the IP is 50.87.144.104
the domain is reach-up.com, which is hosted by godaddy and pointing with the nameservers to HG.

I need a clarification. Are you accessing the restoration URL as
http://reach-up.com/installation/index.php
or as something which looks like
http://1.2.3.4/~something/installation/index.php

netandpaper
normally i would restore from reach-up.com/kickstart.php
but the pointing of the nameservers didn´t work yet so i restored from
http://50.87.144.104/~reach13/kickstart.php
you see that on http://50.87.144.104/~reach13/ is an error displayed now.
i ran through the restoration process till i had to put in the database data and got a database error first. i tried it a couple of times and get now this error 404 or whatever on http://50.87.144.104/~reach13/
in the ftp i can see that the joomla installation has been extracted but it cannot fill the database obviously. the database data is correct though.

URLs in the form of 1.2.3.4/~something are called temporary URLs and cause great problems to Apache (it can't report the URL of the site being accessed and it cannot parse SEF URLs). As a result restoration will not work on such URLs, as noted in our documentation. Unless you assign a domain name you will not be able to proceed with the restoration.

netandpaper
and i had an index.html file with test content before i ran through the restoration process and could reach the content with reach-up.com without any problem. so it cannot be the pointing of the nameserver that causes the problem, i guess.

Sandra - Net and Paper Austria www.netandpaper.at [email protected]

netandpaper
but if i point the nameservers to HG and see the test index.html it should be able to restore, or not?

Sandra - Net and Paper Austria www.netandpaper.at [email protected]

it try to restore to my working server and get the following error:

Can you ask your host if your database user has the CREATE VIEW privilege? You will need it in order to restore MySQL VIEWs like the one you are pasting here

There is only one other thing that comes to mind: the tables referenced by this VIEW are not present in the restored database. This can happen due to many reasons:
  • The extension which created it (it's either JoomFish or Falang – stupidly Falang uses the same table names) was uninstalled, the tables removed but the VIEW wasn't. In this case exclude the view with the database tables exclusion feature of Akeeba Backup
  • The tables referenced by the view are not backed up because they are excluded with the database tables exclusion feature of Akeeba Backup
  • You have turned off the database table dependency tracking which is a bad idea what you have views in your database.

netandpaper
that i don´t quite get at all, but let me see:

1. i don´t use JoomFish and also don´t know what Falang is

2. so in Akeeba Backup there is a feature which would exclude certain database tables?
where would i find that to check if its the case that i turned it off?

3. where do i find the database table dependency tracking to see if i turned it off?

please keep in mind, that i restored to my working server 20min ago, got this wird long database error but see the page as it should be. but when i restore to the real server (both Hostgator, both databases all privilges) i get another error (404) and don´t see the page (database is empty) ?

1. I am looking at the VIEW's name. It's bxle3_jf_languages and belongs either to JoomFish or Falang. These are multilingual / translation extensions for Joomla!. Someone installed one of them at some point in time on your site. Otherwise where did this view come from? I've seen it many times causing problems and it's on;y created by one of the aforementioned extensions.

2. Akeeba Backup, Database Table Exclusions, find #__jf_languages. If the icon is white, click on it and it will become yellow. Yellow = excluded.

3. Does not apply in your case, you can forget about it :)

netandpaper
i looked it up in the plugin-manager and in the extension manager and didn´t find one of those you mention but i had the language filter turned on. do you think, that could cause the problem?

Nope. Just follow the instructions in #2 above and re-take the backup.

the icon beside was red. should it be red?

Sandra - Net and Paper Austria www.netandpaper.at [email protected]

That's the "Skip contents" icon. It is always red in view as we cannot back up their content. I meant the other icon which instructs Akeeba Backup to skip the table or view entirely from the backup. That's white. Click on it to turn it yellow.

Well, yes, if you have an emergency I will be around until Wednesday evening (my time). From Wednesday evening to Tuesday morning I will be travelling to the J and Beyond conference. I'm told that the Internet connectivity is not good, so you may not hear back from me if you try contacting me during those days.
