Description of my issue:
I seem to run out of ideas on how to get akeeba to backup,
Keep getting errors as follows:
Could not open archive file 'C:/wamp2/www/krd/administrator/components/com_akeeba/backup/site-localhost-20130515-153148.j01' for append!
tried all options in trouble shooting wizard, updated joomla, tried reloading a new akeeba and old versions also, additionally tried to move to different computer with same backup and get same results.
Even tried to delete wamp and reload newer versions. Still with same result. Website seems to work fine, all writable files in system configuration.
Even tried other backups, they also yeilded the same result.
Is there anything you think I should check. I would really appreciate the help.

Since you are on a local host, be advised that permissions or Windows ACL may be interfering with Akeeba Backup's operation.

If you are on a Windows XP Home machine, use Windows explorer to find your site's root (it's C:\wamp2\www\krd). Right click on it, select Properties and clear (unselect - it must be blank, not gray!) the Read Only checkbox. Click OK and, if prompted, tell Windows to apply this to all files and subdirectories.

If you are on a Windows XP Professional, Vista/7/8 (all versions) machine, use Windows explorer to find your site's root (it's C:\wamp2\www\krd). Right click on it, select Properties and click on the Security tab. Click on the Edit... button. If you can't see a user named Everyone, you will have to click on the Add... button, type Everyone in the big text box and click OK. Now click on the Everyone user and then take a look at the list of checkboxes below. Click the Accept checkbox on the Full Control row (the topmost one). Click on OK, then again on OK.

Hi Nicolas and thank you for such a quick response,
Added Everyone a root level and assigned "Full control" with no success, Other suggestions?

Additional info I use JCE and Admin Tools.
Just as a test, Have tried to load fresh Joomla 3.0 on same wamp server. with Akeeba backup. worked first time, then after loading Admin tools JCE 2.0.19 and pictures and very little content. It then, produced the same error. Is there something else I can try? Greatly appreciated.

Is it possible that you are running out of disk space?

If not, are you by any chance using Windows XP?

Plenty of space available if your talking about hard drive space.
38.1 GB used
245 GB free space
This one is windows 7, I did take off the Avast virus, because of posts I seen on web, to see if that was an issue. However, it had no affect and still the same outcome. As mentioned, I even reloaded Wamp on both this computer and my other, which is an xp, reloaded two different backups of two websites, tried the Akeeba and both register the same error. This was an effort to understand that settings of wamp were back to default in case something was changed by accident.
Nickolas, Is there something else I can provide that is the missing link? If so let me know, as I need to resolve. Thank you for your patience with me.

Can you try using XAMPP or Zend Server instead of WAMP? I still have no idea why you have this issue. It makes no sense. For some reason PHP doesn't want to write to that file. It's not permissions, it's not disk space, it's not the number of resource handlers (that's why I asked if you're using XP)... I have run out of plausible explanations... Unless...

The only other explanation is a wrong output directory. Go to Configuration and find the output directory setting. Set it to [DEFAULT_OUTPUT] (all caps and do not forget the square brackets. Did that work now?

Hi Nicholas, Just wanted to touch base with you on this.
I restored my computer this last weekend and this solved the issue with not being able to back up.
Now I'm no expert in IT, and really do not know what I had changed. However ,this did correct problem. Now Akeeba works great!
Thanks again, for your input on this.
