Description of my issue:

I had an issue and needed to restore.
I download the kickstart and do a restore.
My issue is still there.
My homepage has a big problem.
Why is the backup not working?
I can share the Dropbox directory with you here but I dont want to post it on forum.
I have sent the link with the location to your email.
Let me know if there is something wrong with the files

According to your issue description both the backup and restoration worked, but your problem had nothing to do with what was restored. Unfortunately I cannot provide troubleshooting and support for third party software and/or generic Joomla! support.

Why do you say restoration worked?
When I did the backup there was no issue. So if something goes wrong I expect when I do the restore to come back to the initial state when everything was ok.
Thats the whole point in doing backups.
Am I wrong here?

You didn't report any backup or restoration errors. In fact you told me that you did restore your back (implies: no error messages) but your site still has a problem. This is most likely due to a file added to your site after the backup was made. When restoring a backup existing files are not deleted. Only files present in the backup will be overwritten or added to your site, but the existing files will not be removed. If you suspect that your site is broken as the result of a file added after you took a backup please keep local copies of your backups, remove all files and folders from your site and restore the backup again.

FYI, the restoration (actually: the extraction) is designed not to remove existing files and folders. It is what allows you to perform and restore partial backups, or restore a site in your server's web root directory without destroying any sites in subdirectories.

Thanks for the advice.
I think I know the folder that is corrupted.
I will make a backup of it, delete it and do the restore again.

if I have a full backup, is it ok (or recommended) to delete all inside "public html" folder before restore?

I am just preparing to do the restore again

user75962
Problem was solved.

My previous question was answered in your email :)
I am not very familiar with terminology and did not know that public_html has all the files of my website

Some things did not worked very well and it took some time

Glad all fine now

all I need now is to automate it with dropbox
it did not worked last time I tried
I will check more documentation

one question
can I use only cpanel? is faster than filezila.

Yes, public_html and site root are –in your server– the one and same thing. I use the term "web root" because in some servers the directory is called public_html, www, htdocs, httpdocs, web, the domain name of the site or it is the FTP root (where you connect by default). So, "web root" it is to avoid confusion :)

Regarding Dropbox: mind the "Part size for split archives" setting. This is usually the key. It definitely needs to be less than 150Mb due to Dropbox' restrictions on 3rd party file uploads. It usually needs to be in the area of 10-20Mb to avoid server timeouts. Please also read https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/akeeba-backup-documentation/step-by-step-guides.html#how-to-cloud-backup-basic-config for very important info about this.

Yes, you can. I actually prefer using Transmit and an SFTP connection as that's much faster than either FileZilla or cPanel. Of course, that's me: I do it the hard way :)
