There is an issue with my Joomla and want to backup the core SQL database fields (i.e content, menus and categories etc.) and add this database to a new fresh installed joomla database.

However, when I backup the SQL and dump it into the new database I can see that the tables have copied across but the menu items do not work - it errors the SQL table number and the returns a 404.
I think this is because the table numbers havnt been preserved and when it comes to the menu items linking to articles the table number is wrong.
Is this correct?
If so is there a way to preserve the table numbers/IDs?

If not do you know why this would be happening?

Thanks in advance.

Hello Rowan,

You cannot do what you are trying to do, sorry. Categories, articles, components, modules, plugins, templates, core components' contents (e.g. weblinks, banners, newsfeeds) and menu items are all linked together in the assets table which is linked with the user groups table to which the users and viewing access levels are linked to. It's all so interconnected that you're trying to do has zero chance of success.

It's easier to clone the site using Akeeba Backup and remove what you don't want from the new site.
