Mandatory information about my setup: Joomla 2.5, automatically installed via GoDaddy hosting

Have I read the related troubleshooter articles above before posting (which pages?)? yes
Have I searched the tickets before posting? yes
Have I read the documentation before posting (which pages?)? yes
Joomla! version: 2.5.14
PHP version: 5.3
MySQL version: 5.0
Host: (optional, but it helps us help you)
Akeeba Backup version: (unknown)

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

backups have been failing for the past week. I'm receiving an error that looks like this:

Backup Failed
The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.
The last error message was:

Invalid AJAX data:

Please click the 'View Log' button on the toolbar to view the Akeeba Backup log file for further information.

There is plenty of disc space available for this operation. Please advise.

please go to the configuration page of the component and set the following:

Minimum execution time: one second
maximum execution time: 14 seconds
runtime bias: 75%

If you still have a problem backing up your site, please go again to the configuration page. Find the archiver engine row and click on the configure button next to it. A new pane opens below. Set the part size for split archives to 5 MB And retry backing up.

If the problem persists, please attach your new log file.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I've tried both, and the same error occurs. Complicating matters is the fact that the "view log" button next to "troubleshooting wizard" goes to a blank screen. I can only access it from the "view log" button on the upper menu bar.

Here is the log file from that

We will have to try some more conservative settings. Go to Akeeba Backup's configuration page and use the following options:

Minimum execution time: 1 second
Maximum execution time: 5 seconds
Runtime bias: 75%

If this doesn't work, we can go even more conservative:

Minimum execution time: 5 seconds
Maximum execution time: 3 seconds (yes, the maximum is less than the minimum; this is not the typo)
Runtime bias: 50%

At least one of those sets of settings should work. Also, please make sure that your computers is connected to the Internet throughout the backup and does not go to sleep.

Tried, and still no difference

btw. this is happening on 6 different websites all hosted on the same server. My site, and 5 currently under development.

What to do next?

There are only three explanations left:

1. You are running out of disk space. You have already checked that.

2. You need a smaller part size for split archives. You may have to try values as low as 2 MB or maybe less.

3. Your host is using a very strict CPU usage limit which is impractical as it terminates the backup. There is nothing we can do about that as it is up to your host.

Finally, you may want to check the server's error log to see if there any PHP fatal errors at the time the backup stops.

Apart from that there is no other reason to backup would not work.

The same problems are occurring. I agree, this is most likely a hosting issue. Everything was working perfectly until last week. GoDaddy support claims that there is no issue with the hosting, but we know that's probably not the case.

If you have any information I can bring to them to further describe the problem, I would appreciate it.

I also appreciate all of your help in trying to address this. I'm a BIG fan of your product! I'm a web designer and I use it often to transfer Joomla sites from development to live locations.

I have reports of the same issue, only on GoDaddy, from four different people including you. I can see a patern: two days ago GoDaddy did some change to their servers and problems started only on their despicable hosting platform. GoDaddy's servers are beyond screwed up (to use the only suitable for work phrase I think of them). Not to mention that GoDaddy is an overall shady business, one of the few hosts that openly supported SOPA (mass Internet surveilance and takedown of sites without due process). And don't get me started with their other unethical practices, ranging from forced upselling of useless products to unsuspecting customers to being outright sexists of the worst kind in their advertisements. Do you really want to give your money to those greedy, unethical people who can't even configure a web server?

You know what you have to do: move to a decent host. SiteGround has a special offer for Akeeba users, giving three free months. Click on Software from our site's top menu, you'll see the offer first thing on that page. I would suggest taking advantage of it. You will see that SG is about 7x to 12x faster and has no problems - at a. price which is comparable or lower than GoDaddy. And no, that link is not an affiliate link. I earn no money from SiteGround. I only earn peace of mind, knowing that my clients will be on a host where everything just works, therefore they won't be needing support. And that is more valuable than any amount of money anyone can give me! I write software because I want to help people, not to become rich.

PS: Even though your backups are reported as failing they are actually complete. You can use them to transfer your site.
