Hello Nicholas,

please can you check if you have enough disk space?

Masses; I am using only 1.88 of the 4GB available at the moment according to WebHostManager.

Ok, so it's not a disk space problem.
I have assigned this ticket to Nicholas.
At the moment he's out of office, so he will take a look on next Wednesday.

Please remove the old backup archive (site-cocking.org-20130806-164905.jpa) from your site's root and retry backing up your site.

I think I deleted the filed before reading you post and still suffered failures, but trying again tonight I had a success, which is a relief.

However, I note that the backup is made up of a lot of part files (224 I think). The .jpa settings set via the configuration wizard are as per the attached file.

In the past I have had a single file. Can this be changed or is it part of the problem?

Thanks

Nick

Go to Components, Akeeba Backup. Make sure that the backup profile you want to modify is selected. Click on Configuration. Find the Archiver Engine row and click on the Configure button next to it. In the pane which opens below set the Part Size for Split Archives to a lower value.

IMPORTANT: Increasing the part size will create fewer and bigger part sizes. It is possible that your server configuration does not allow such higher values, causing a backup failure. Also, if you intend on automatically transferring the backup archive to a remote storage (such as Dropbox or Amazon S3) a larger part size will lead to timeouts and backup failures. In those cases you should go back and decrease the part size for split archives.

That worked fine with a larger value and I have now produced a single 118MB file of the sort I have been able to produce in the past. I have downloaded this to my Mac as an extra precaution.

Many thanks for you help with this.

Nick.
