Joomla! version: 2.5.14
PHP version: 5.3.27
MySQL version: 5.5.32
Host: www.ausweb.com.au
Akeeba Backup version: 3.8.1

EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:

When I try to do a backup of my site I get the following error message:

Backup Failed

The backup operation has been halted because an error was detected.
The last error message was:

AJAX Loading Error
HTTP Status: 500 (Internal Server Error)
Internal status: error
XHR ReadyState: 4
Raw server response:
Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Please click the 'View Log' button on the toolbar to view the Akeeba Backup log file for further information.

The 404 is not important, the 500 is the problem. Do you have enough disk space on your server? It looks like you are running out of disk space.

Yes I have plenty of disk space. When I look in cpanel it says:
Disk Space Usage 623.47 / 5,000 MB

dlb
A white page or a page with a 500 Internal Server Error is, in fact, either a .htaccess issue to a PHP fatal error in disguise.

Check your server's error logs (not the access logs) immediately after the failed backup. There should be an exact description of the PHP fatal error which occurred. Sometimes you can find the error messages in files called error_log or error.log inside the site's root and/or administrator directories. If unsure about the error log location, please consult your host. Most likely the error logs are available in your site's cPanel, Plesk control panel or similar hosting account management facility.

This is the description in my error log:
[Tue Sep 24 09:12:11 2013] [error] [client 121.217.211.150] File does not exist: /home/mydomain/public_html/500.shtml, referer: http://www.mydomain.com.au/administrator/index.php?option=com_akeeba&view=backup

dlb
Almost! I need the line before or after that line. The line you posted is actually a 404 error on the 500.shtml file. It is trying to give you a pretty error message but can't find the file.

I have actually uninstalled the extension and now am unable to reinstall. I'm actually going to ask the host if they can move the site to one of their other servers as I seem to be having all sorts of weird issues.

I have copied the site to one of their other servers and don't have a problem so it definately seems to be a server issue.

Thanks for your help. I'll see how I go getting the site moved.

dlb
Good luck with it. If we can be of help, pleaes post back.

Thanks Dale.

Hi Dale - thought I would update you.

The host moved the site across to another server which I had tested on and all is working fine now so must have been some issue with the server configuration.

Thanks again for your help.

dlb
I'm glad it is working now. You're welcome!
