Akeeba Backup version: (latest)

This is not a technical issue but a question!
We operate a large website which we have to back up regular and store on our own computers for testing changes on.
Unfortunately we sometimes have bandwidth problems and a download can take up to 30 minutes.
The site is also growing rapidly and the download time will only increase!

Is it possible to automatically only back up parts of the site which have been changed. Download this new backup and restore into an existing fully operational site on our local host so we get the new content etc?

Thanks so much

Andrew

Andrew,

Almost! Most of your changed content would be stored in the database. We can't do an incremental backup of the database, it is all or nothing. The good news is that a databse only backup is generally not too bad in terms of size.

For changed files, that can be done. You can do an incremental backup of your files that includes only files changed since your last backup. An incremental files backup with a full database backup is as close to what you are asking for as we can get.

Hi Dale
Thanks for the reply.
Yes I understand - I have done database only backups.
I also know how to deselect parts of site so they aren't included in a backup.
But I have never done an incremental backup and restore of files.
Is there info about the procedure
1) How to do an incremental backup
2) How to 'restore' an incremental backup on an existing site?

Normally I just go with the kickstart option for restoring the backups but have never tried it using 'a bit' of a site!

Hope that makes sense

Andrew

Andrew,

There is a description of incremental backup and restore at https://www.akeebabackup.com/documentation/akeeba-backup-documentation/configuration.html#basic-configuration.

Thanks Dale
I guess this si what I was supposed to read
:)
......This process should only be used if you really know what you are doing. Do not trust that Akeeba Backup can sort out the collection of incremental backups and help you restore them. It won't.

Take care and thanks for the help

I was actually pointing out the general information on incremental backups, but is is always good to know when you're off the beaten path.

You're welcome!
