Description of my issue:
I get multiple emails on updates from Akeeba for Joomla as well as Akeeba Backups and Akeeba AdminTools although the update emails for Joomla seem to be far worse than the other two.

Now I do want to be notified as I like to keep all of my client sites updated but, seriously, there is no need to receive so many notifications in such a short amount of time. In fact, there should be a setting where you can indicate how often that you will received notices, ie: hourly, daily, weekly, monthly. I would love to be able to set that all update notifications are sent on a set day of each month for each client.

Here is what I got this morning from just one website as I had well over 40 websites that I got emails, many with multiple notifications. It goes without saying that my inbox was 'full'.

But Nic! I want to get the emails to let me know when an update is available as well as which ones I haven't updated. I just don't want 'multiple' emails sent each day. This might be an enhancement for the 'pro' release next time. If it sends out an update email, update a field. If it wants to send out an update email for the same application, see if one has been sent that same date. If so, don't send it. If not, send it. Pretty simple. :)

There is a bug concerning plugin parameters save/load in recent Joomla! releases. We are already working on a workaround. In the meantime you can turn off the plugins.

Apparently every time we use a core Joomla! API we get to regret it. What can I say?

Nicholas,

Has there been any resolution to this problem? My inbox was 'flooded' with multiple notifications on the Joomla 2.5.19 update, some with as many as 20 emails notifications for a single website. Again, I do want to be notified, just not so many!

Yes, but we have not been able to push out a new release yet. My plan is to release a new version of Admin Tools over the weekend.

The long term solution I am working on is a different component, called CMS Update, that bypasses current Joomla! code for the entire update fetch, installation and notification process. It is currently still in Alpha.

Nicholas,

Just a suggestion but there should be some type of flag to indicate that an update email has been sent so that no additional emails are sent out. When an new update is recognize, it can reset the flag until an update email has been sent. That way, there will only be one email sent when a new update is available. Just my two cents.

Luke,

An excellent suggestion! In fact, it is in there now. But Joomla! is supposed to keep track of when the email is sent, and in some cases it forgets, resulting in multiple emails.

The CMS Update component that Nicholas mentioned is alpha level because it is not feature complete. What it does, it does well, but Nicholas is going to teach it more tricks before promoting it from alpha status. The plan is to eventually submit the code to Joomla! for inclusion in the core, but that is quite a way down the road.

Have a nice weekend!
