EXTREMELY IMPORTANT: Please attach a ZIP file containing your Akeeba Backup log file in order for us to help you with any backup or restoration issue. If the file is over 2Mb, please upload it on your server and post a link to it.

Description of my issue:
I do get the Ajax error, 500 and so on. I did run the Configuration wizard and change a few setting according to the troubleshooting guide but it doesn't change, I still get errors.

The logfile is enclosed.

Let's talk about your versions for a bit. Your PHP version, while technically adequate, is not one of the PHP project's better efforts. Those early 5.3 versions were pretty rough. I think the first stable version was 5.3.3 or 5.3.4. Your Joomla! version is out of date and vulnerable and your Akeeba Backup version is 18 months behind and technically not supported. I would recommend some updates. :-)

Your backup is completing, it fails in the post processing phase. I can't tell where you are trying to upload it. Which cloud storage are you trying to upload to and what split archive size are you using?

Yes I'm helping a friend with his site that I built for him a couple of years ago. And now he asked me to update it. But before I do that I would like to make a backup. So yes the intention is to get up to date on the system and Akeeba.

The PHP version is what it is from the webhotel he is using, I can always ask them if they have something more current.

The backupfile is stored locally in the administrator/components/com_akeeba/backups folder.

Do you think it is a valid backupfile that can be used if something breaks during the update?

Thanks

I really hate depending on a backup that ended with an error - even if I'm sure it was finished. Let me ask Nicholas to double check this before you do the update.

The backup really is complete. At the point where it halts there is nothing important going on: we are just getting ready to write the "backup complete" in the database. I believe that the failure is a result of using PHP 5.3.1 which is not supported by any version of our software. PHP versions 5.3.0 up to and including 5.3.4 have been notoriously buggy (and were made obsolete more than three years ago – PHP 5.3.5 was released 06 January 2011). In any case, your backup is complete and you can use the backup archive to use as a safe copy of your site.

Thanks

I'll see if the provider has a higher version of PHP.

Most hosts will give you a way to run PHP 5.4 if you ask them. The only case this wouldn't be possible is on a very old server running PHP 5.2 and 5.3. The reason is that having two versions of PHP at the same time on a single server is possible, manageable and relatively easy. Three versions of PHP at the same time? Things get really messy really fast and hosts are reluctant to go there (which is understandable). In those cases we've seen that most hosts are willing to migrate the site to a newer server on their user's request. I'm sure that if you insist and the host is worth the money you spend on them they'll find a way to help you.

The host didn't have anything fresher than the one they offer at the moment. They will upgrade later this year.

Anyway after updating Joomla to 2.5.18 and updating Akeeba Backup I no longer get any errors on the backup.

Case closed!

Thanks for the help.
